Thoughts on Hunter X Hunter episode 5 to 10 - Forums

For those who haven't watched the anime yet, don’t worry my writing is spoiler-free. I am not going to disclose anything here that can diminish your curiosity. So rest easy. After finishing off the 10th episode, I feel like there's an obvious drag in the story. It's all a bit one-paced at the moment. It's not that something extraordinary, out of the box and unthinkable is taking place in each phase of the Hunter Exam. If that were the case, it is justifiable to have 2-3 episodes for each phase of the Hunter Exam. Character development in this anime is perceptible. So far, I like Kurapika's growth. He has shown his true colours. He encounters a raging incident where he is reminded of his clan being wiped off by Phantom Troops. We can see his precious eyeballs turn red for the first time. Leorio is due to come to his own. So far I get the feeling he is riding along nicely on the back of others' help. But Leorio keeps you entertained. His growth is pretty much scrappy and full of jitters. He is sort of a trouble maker and seeker. On the other hand, Gon is street smart. He uses his senses to very good effect. I want to talk about Killua's development in more detail. He bears the name and responsibility of his assassin family. He has some uncanny and magical abilities. Most of the time, he carries around a cold look on his face. And he is a cold-blooded murderer. Honestly, I think he could have easily made this far into the Hunter Exam without Gon's help. There is no need for him to stick around Gon and others to pass the exam. But yet for some reason, he is happy to take Gon's help from time to time. You can read more here.
